Announcement Day Drops Multiple Products

Magic is celebrating its 25 anniversary this year and the product announcements made today reflect that fact. The official Announcement Day gave us a bounty of information about what the next year of Magic will look like and, in part, it is going to look familiar.

Let's start with Ixalan. Magic's next, and as we learned recently, final Block (for now) will take us to a new plane featuring pirates, dinosaurs (with feathers!), and Vraska. Ixalan will have its Prerelease over the weekend of September 23, 2017. It will release in paper and on Magic Online on September 29. Pro Tour Ixalan will take place November 3-5, 2017, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.

The second set of Ixalan Block will be known as Rivals of Ixalan. The Prerelease will take place the weekend of January 13, 2018 and will launch on Magic Online on January 15. The set will go on sale, both physical and digital, on January 19, 2017. Pro Tour Rivals of Ixalan will being on February 2, 2018.

There were two other Ixalan related announcements. The first is an out-of-box multiplayer experience called Explorers of Ixalan. Releasing on November 24, 2017, the set will contain four 60 card decks, 20 double sided tokens, 50 game tiles, and 20 counter pieces. The game tiles may indicate a game with some tabletop elements. There will also be an art book, will release on January 2, 2018.

Moving beyond Ixalan we have the name of the set after we leave pirates and dinosaurs: Dominaria. In April 2018 we will be going back to where Magic began and see how the plane has recovered in the wake of the events of Time Spiral Block. Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic served on the deisgn team for Dominaria But before we visit Dominaria we will get the chance to play with the third silver bordered Un-set: Unstable. Releasing on December 8, 2017, the set will not be tournament legal.

The announcements continued with the themes of the next Duel Decks and From the Vault. Duel Decks: Merfolk vs. Goblins hits shelves on November 10, 2017 while From the Vault: Transform, featuring 15 double-faced cards comes out two weeks later on November 24.

As if that wasn't enough we also got the official name of the next Core Set: Core 2019, coming out in July 2018. Finally another Masters set was announced. Unlike Iconic Masters (which will focus on iconic creature types), Masters 25 will be a set that pulls cards from the entire history of the game. Iconic Masters releases on November 17, 217 while Masters 25 comes out on March 16, 2018.

A lot is happening in the 25th year of Magic. And more will be announced this September at HASCON. One thing is for sure - Wizards pulled out all the stops for this momentous occasion.
