Reddit

Lee Sharpe, the Digital Product Manager for Magic Online, posted an article today about the 2017 Magic Online Championship Series. The complete rules for the series can be found on the event homepage.

Here are some highlight's from Lee's announcement:

  • 2 MOCS Monthly events - one Sealed, one Constructed - capped at 8 rounds. Anyone with 6 match wins will be invited to a MOCS Playoff event.
  • Platinum Professional Players will no longer receive automatic invites to MOCS playoff events. Platinum Pros will receive Qualifier Points each month, which can be used to join MOCS Monthly events.
  • The partnership between the Magic World Championship and the Magic Online Championship will end in 2017. World Champion Brian Braun-Duin will be invited to the 2017 Magic Online Championship and the 2017 Magic Online Champion will be invited to the 2017 World Championship. The Magic Online Champion will still receive Platinum status.
  • The overall prize purse for the 2017 Magic Online Championship will be $200,000, with $40,000 going to the champion.
  • The 2017 Magic Online Championship will expand to 24 players. Eight of these slots will be awarded through MOCS Opens - sealed tournaments open to any player on Magic Online. The entry fee can be fulfilled with either Play Points of Event Tickets - no QPs necessary.
  • Qualifier Points will no longer be awarded in Friendly Leagues, phantom events, flashback drafts, or Pack-Per-Win Limited Leagues. The single elimination Cube event, however, will still award Qualifier Points.
