Beat Downs with the Boz: Modern Jund v3

Reddit

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them. Jund is the One Deck to rule them all. My pet deck, it is everything that I love about Magic; and, this week, I share it with you! If you are looking to have an answer to everything, impeccable card quality, and solid games of Magic, then Jund is for you. Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, and Liliana of the Veil are the 3 best cards in the format and the cornerstones of the archetype. With Thoughtseize, Lightning Bolt, and a few other supportive spells, you can pick your opponent apart.

Deck List

Match 1: Nahiri Control

Match 2: Death's Shadow Zoo

Match 3: Merfolk

Match 4: Dredge

Match 5: Burn

We had a bit of a poor showing this week, but we mulliganed almost every game. Win or lose in a small set, Jund is still the deck I plan on playing in every Modern event. Tuning to the meta game fluctuations is Jund's greatest challenge. This week, I played a Thrun, the Last Troll in my sideboard specifically because I was worried about the Nahiri decks. Death's Shadow Zoo and the resurgence of Dredge were not things I expected and I might need to make adjustments for that. Sideboard options may be the 4th Kitchen Finks, an additional Terminate, the 2nd Kalitas, some number of Anger of the Gods and/or a Graffdigger's Cage. On the other hand, over reacting to a small sample size must be handled with extreme caution. Until I acquire a larger sample size against these decks, it is unclear what adjustments I need to make. With Jund, you almost always want to act slowly and focus on beating the decks you know you will face at a tournament, rather than the hot new thing on Magic Online that may die out.

Until next week, GLHF friends. May you smite thy enemies with a Golden Axe!
