Take Your Time

As Foretold was a card many players were very excited about in Modern because it had interesting implications for free spells like Restore Balance and Living End. We’ve seen a couple of wu Control decks using As Foretold to cast Ancestral Vision, but surely there has to be something a little less fair to be doing, right?

Time Warp
This deck is crazy. The principle is the same thing as other Time Warp decks in Modern. You spend the first few turns cantripping and Remanding while you hit your land drops, and then at some point you start casting Time Warps. Then, you take advantage of Howling Mine effects, which are much less symmetrical when you’re taking extra turns, particularly since those Howling Mines will draw you into additional copies of Time Warp and company.

The exciting thing about As Foretold in this deck is that it makes your Ancestral Visions substantially better. Previously, the first copy was critical because you’d resolve your Ancestral right around when you wanted to start taking all the turns, so it was important to both continue hitting land drops and find as many Time Warps as possible. As Foretold means that you don’t have to chain together a billion Time Warps in order to resolve further copies of Ancestral Vision. Additionally, you gain access to Restore Balance to punish aggressive decks. Perhaps most importantly, you get to play copies of Savor the Moment, since you can still cast spells off of any copies of As Foretold that you have in play even if you don’t get to untap your lands.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this deck is the win condition. Previous iterations would just spin their wheels until you had enough lands to start activating Celestial Colonnade or otherwise ultimate some crazy Planeswalker to effectively end the game. Now that you have As Foretold to make sure mana is never an issue, you can actually just play an Elixir of Immortality to cycle through your deck over and over again. As Foretolds allowing you to chain together Ancestral Visions from there makes it pretty unlikely for you to fail.

At some point you can begin casting Cryptic Commands to return your opponent’s permanents to their hand, since you’ll get to recycle those Cryptic Commands as many times as you need to. Then you can either start activating Mikokoro, Center of the Sea or cast a Part the Waterveil with awaken.

All in all, As Foretold adds a very interesting dimension to this deck, and Savor the Moment substantially increases the density and efficiency of the Time Warp effects in this deck. If you want to make sure that you get to have all the fun in your next Modern event, this seems like an exciting choice.
