We’ve seen all manner of exciting takes on the Eldrazi menace in Modern. Many of these decks rely on disruption like Thoughtseize to buy time so they can assemble some combination of Eye of Ugins and Eldrazi Temples and start jamming giant monsters to overwhelm the opponent. While all of the builds we’ve seen so far have been largely Black-based, xXLogosXx wonders if there isn’t a better base color:

Buy This Deck

The most exciting thing about this deck is the density of cards from recent sets. Between Eldrazi Displacer, Thought-Knot Seer, Reality Smasher, and World Breaker, a full thirteen cards in the main deck didn’t exist before Oath of the Gatewatch, with six more having been printed in Battle for Zendikar. This deck uses the same core as the Mono-Black Eldrazi strategy, but uses Green and White as support colors rather than Black. Critically, this allows you to utilize Ancient Stirrings to sculpt your draws, finding Eldrazi Temple, Eye of Ugin, or Eldrazi to cast as the situation calls for it.

The other interesting inclusion in this deck is Eldrazi Displacer. This powerful card functions as a mana sink against midrange or control decks. While there are some cards you aren’t especially interested in flickering for your opponent, such as Snapcaster Mage, there are plenty of others you’re more than happy to flicker out for a turn. Whether you’re fizzling a Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker activation by blinking its target, fogging creature-lands like Raging Ravine, or just killing off creature tokens, there are all kinds of applications for this activated ability. Fortunately, this deck is well-equipped to take advantage.

Which Eldrazi variant will be coming out on top in the coming weeks? It may not be this particular take, but it’s worth noting just how powerful and flexible cards like Ancient Stirrings and Eldrazi Displacer are in the shell, and to recognize how they might be able to contribute to more typical builds.
