Mighty Morphin' Polymorphers

Reddit

From the beginning, Magic players have looked for ways to cheat creatures into play. It doesn't matter if that creature is Force of Nature, Verdant Force, Darksteel Colossus, or Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or if the means is Reanimate, Goryo's Vengeance, or Show and Tell. Creatures have gotten a lot better in recent years, but we haven't really seen a lot of huge creatures in Modern. There are more ways to cheat creatures into play than just Goryo's Vengeance and Through the Breach.

Polymorph
This deck is really interesting because it attacks from so many angles. You have lots of ramp effects like Search for Tomorrow and Utopia Sprawl to power out powerful midrange haymakers. Both Garruks, Call of the Herd, and Batterskull are all great ways to generate value against control and midrange alike while buying you time to set up.

Set up for what? Polymorph and Proteus Staff. You have no creatures in your deck besides Emrakul, but plenty of ways to generate tokens. Between Planeswalkers and Call of the Herd, as well as Khalni Garden and even Mutavault. With an abundance of not-creatures to Polymorph away so that you can cheat an Emrakul into play on the third or fourth turn of the game.

One of the most interesting parts of this deck is that you have lots of options available depending on how you want to attack the format. You could easily opt to include cards like Jace, the Mind Sculptor now that it's unbanned, or go a little bigger with more Nissa, Vital Forces or Garruk, Primal Hunter, or play more Batterskulls could help against aggressive decks. You could even play cards like Chalice of the Void in the maindeck if you expect to play against largely combo decks.

All in all, this is an interesting take on a midrange deck with a combo finish. One of the disadvantages of this shell is that you have limited interaction outside of Planeswalkers because there are no Abrupt Decays or Detention Spheres in this color combination. That said, you have a ton of haymakers that are difficult for control decks to deal with, as well as the ability to both grind opponents out or go much bigger and win that way. Time and again, we've seen that attrition and control decks with the ability to turn the corner quickly are more than capable of stealing games against all manner of decks, and that this category of deck is particularly powerful in a wide-open format like Modern.
