During its first appearance in Standard, Madness became one of the most broadly beloved Standard decks in my memory. The overwhelming majority of the deck was commons and uncommons, and it could keep pace against even the most overbearing Standard monsters of the time. With that memory of Madness in mind, it’s been a little sad to see the mechanic return and do so little during its time in Standard. Perhaps Pascal Maynard could change all that:

Mouth // Feed is a pseudo Call of the Herd that plays very well with your various pump effects. Everything from Flameblade Adept to Noose Constrictor to Furyblade Vampire each can easily get up to more than 3 power so that Mouth // Feed nets you a million cards.

You’ve also got Honored Hydra which functions as a Roar of the Wurm — a card that you’re excited to discard since a 6/6 for four is much more exciting than casting the card from your hand. There’s even an Arrogant Wurm in the form of Incorrigible Youths! The gang’s all here, just waiting to put together a breakout performance!

If you’re looking for a relatively budget-friendly aggro deck, this seems like a pretty good choice. You’ve got lots of aggressive threats, plenty of staying power due to the number of cards that play out of the graveyard, and lots of tricky madness interactions that opponents might stumble into since madness spells have had relatively little impact thus far in their tenure in Standard. Even if only for nostalgia’s sake, this is absolutely something I’d consider taking to my next Standard event.
