Mr. Robot

For Kaladesh being an artifact block, we haven’t seen a ton of artifact decks in Standard outside of Aetherworks Marvel. With just a few months to go before rotation, some players are looking to change that. There are enough Tezzerets in the format to try that route, but with Dominaria in the mix there’s also The Antiquities War and Karn, Scion of Urza. Akmid has taken those new tools and put together something very exciting:

The Antiquities War
A number of people are trying to break Karn, Scion of Urza, and the secret seems to be trying to find a bunch of cheap value artifacts that you don’t mind having whether you get a Karn or not. Things like Renegade Map, Prophetic Prism, and Cogworker’s Puzzleknot are great examples. These help fix your mana, dig towards Karn, and make your Constructs huge.

The big question is: what else does your deck do besides try to cantrip into Karn? Metallic Rebuke and Battle at the Bridge are your primary forms of interaction. You’re trying to buy time until you can stick Karn or Herald of Anguish, each of which can generate a huge swing in both board position and card advantage. Your other payoff spell is The Antiquities War. This card helps dig you into even more value artifacts and threatens to end the game. The last piece of the puzzle is Merchant’s Dockhand. This card lets you leverage all your artifacts to dig for your handful of powerful haymakers.

The big question for this deck is whether it can keep pace with the aggressive decks in the format. If you don’t die quickly to Heart of Kiran and Scrapheap Scrounger, then you’ve got powerful haymakers and cantrips to find them. Kaladesh may be our best chance to see The Antiquities War in Standard, so if that’s something you’re interested in, I’d take Akmid’s deck for a spin.
