Embrace the Void

Reddit

Since Sensei's Divining Top was banned, Legacy has been all about Chalice of the Void decks. We're seeing all kinds of variations on Ancient Tomb plus Chalice of the Void, including Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas decks, Blood Moon Stompy decks, Eldrazi Stompy decks, Affinity Stompy decks, and more. That's starting to lead to a situation where people are leaning on Chalice of the Void to win their Delver matchups and looking to skew the rest of their deck to beat up on opposing Chalice decks. This week, MattN put together something that combines a fast clock with Chalice of the Void, cheap disruption, and the ability to go over the top of other Chalice decks:

The Antiquities War
This is a wonky little deck. Your primary gameplan is to use City of Traitors and Ancient Tomb to resolve a turn one Chalice of the Void. Your second goal is to use your fast mana to force through a Karn, Scion of Urza or The Antiquities War. These cards combine with all of your cheap artifacts to allow you to put enormous pressure on your opponent and end games very quickly.

The interesting thing about this deck is that you have the ability to leverage cards like Thoughtcast to help you reach a critical mass of haymakers against control decks and keep a high density of artifacts. You also have a bunch of cheap interaction in Metallic Rebuke and Force of Will to help force through your win conditions. Even more, both Karn and The Antiquities War help you keep your hand full of cards and even help you dig towards key spells to help swing matchups.

The last card that's super interesting here is Day's Undoing. This is a card that lets you reset your hand once you've dumped your handful of artifacts on the battlefield. This does a number of things, like helping you find additional haymakers to try to end the game and refilling your hand if you need more artifacts to present lethal on a subsequent turn. It's also worth noting that you have the ability to cast Day's Undoing as early as the first or second turn of the game to reset your opponent's hand and potentially ruin their plans.
