Some Kind of Miracle

Reddit

With the banning of Sensei's Divining Top, we’ve seen a drastic drop off in the density of Miracles in the Legacy metagame. That said, the deck hasn’t disappeared completely. There are variations leaning on Portent and other powerful controlling spells. There are builds focusing on Soothsaying as a pseudo-Top so that you can continue to play Counterbalance. Still others have eschewed the late game in favor of closing things out with Monastery Mentor. The most interesting take that I’ve seen recently is this one by AltNiccolo:

Portent
One of the most interesting things about Miracles has always been its flexibility as an archetype. When you’re playing a deck with so much card selection that also wants the game to go long, the last ten or so cards that you add to your deck — the random singletons and metagame calls — matter more than ever.

Some previous iterations of this deck have opted for things like Wizard and Legendary Synergies, adding cards like Venser, Shaper Savant, Vendilion Clique, and Riptide Laboratory to go along with Snapcaster Mage and Karakas. Others have played Stoneforge Mystic alongside Batterskull, Thopter Foundry, and Sword of the Meek. AltNiccolo has gone in a different direction, replacing the Elspeth, Knight-Errants we might have seen many years ago with Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. This card is very good at taking over midrange matchups, since it doesn’t die to either Abrupt Decay or Lightning Bolt, and is also very good at pressuring opposing Planeswalkers.

Additionally, AltNiccolo is choosing to fight aggressive decks with fragile mana bases with the likes of Blood Moon and From the Ashes. These are great haymakers that are, in many ways, more effective at ending the game against Delver of Secrets decks that cards like Jace, the Mind Sculptor.

If you’re looking to play a traditional control deck in Legacy, Miracles is still a perfectly reasonable choice. Terminus is extraordinarily powerful as a one-mana sweeper, and the density of cantrips means that you can almost always find the cards you need to play a reasonable game. Backed up by Snapcaster Mage, you have ever more card selection and the ability to re-buy your most powerful effects.
