An Artifact-themed set means we’re set up for all kinds of exciting cards for eternal formats. Modern and Vintage in particular have a multitude of homes for degenerate artifacts. Unfortunately, Affinity is a deck that was likely kept prominently in mind during the design and development of Kaladesh. However, there are a couple of fringe Modern decks that may be far enough off of the radar that they pick up something that pushes them into the mainstream:

When Second Sunrise was legal, Eggs was a deck powerful and resilient enough to win Pro Tour Return to Ravnica. The deck is certainly less powerful in the wake of the banning, but certainly far from dead. Now, the deck focuses much more on Krark-Clan Ironworks rather than Lotus Bloom, but that gives the deck all manner of interesting interactions, particularly in conjunction with a number of new cards from Kaladesh.

The big payoff spells here are Era of Innovation and Aetherworks Marvel. The power of Era of Innovation is that it’s a mana sink for Krark-Clan Ironworks mana that helps you keep cards flowing mid-combo. In games where you need to fight through a ton of disruption, you can also slowly build up your board of artifacts while accumulating energy. Depending on how the deck is built, Era of Innovation could be an absurd draw mid-combo as well. If you have early copies of Glassblower's Puzzleknot or stick an early copy of Aetherworks Marvel, you’ll have an enormous excess of energy so that this is just a draw three to help find the next copy of Open the Vaults. The fact that you can buy back all preceding copies with Faith's Reward is just further upside.

Aetherworks Marvel and Dynavolt Tower are two exciting pickups, though they may not look like it at first. The key here is that you can use these cards to accumulate energy, activate them once, sacrifice them to Krark-Clan Ironworks, and then buy them back with copies of Open the Vaults or Faith's Reward. Aetherworks Marvel helps to ensure that you’ve got plenty of fuel to prevent yourself from fizzling, while Dynavolt Tower is actually a reasonable win condition, since you can just loop Open the Vaults with Codex Shredder to generate infinite energy.

A more traditional build may end up being better than this one, which is focused on the new cards picked up in Kaladesh, but cards like Inventor's Fair and Aetherflux Reservoir give the deck new ways to buy extra time. Inventor's Fair even gives you the ability to find Krark-Clan Ironworks. There are lots of new toys to play with that may just bring this deck back to the forefront.
