HA! Watch the art of Irresistible Prey and Prey’s Vengeance. They sort of tell a story! ^.^

  • unknown says:

vengevine is gonna be played as a 4 of in the new naya builds like no other. that card might as well say “Blightning Target/ Ranger of Eos Tool”. at least there making it harder for noobs to pilot jund. turn three blightning could just end up getting you killed lmfao.   XD

    • LOLcakes says:

      Blightning only zaps players.

      • Stone says:

You didmt get it, if jund plays blightning on you, you discard vengevine and then bring it to play from grave with two nacatls for instance and trample ur for to death.

        • MTGplayergg says:

I’ve played against decks that use vengevine and spanked them. I don’t know why the card is so high priced. It kinda sucks. Searing Blaze for the win.

  • Tume says:

I was thinking about those auras with Totem Armor. If a creature has, say, 2 auras on it with Totem Armor on them both, and would be destroyed, will both of the auras be destroyed, because after all, the totem auras say “If enchanted creature would be destroyed, instead remove all damage from it and destroy this Aura.” That would mean that all Auras with Totem armor are destroyed, but what about Umbra Mystic’s ability? The wording about totem armor is different to the others in Umbra Mystic, which says “If an enchanted permanent you control would be destroyed, instead remove all damage from it and destroy an aura attached to it.” So if there’s a situation like this. I control a creature with say, a Holy Strength, Eland Umbra and a Hyena Umbra attached to Umbra Mystic and an opponent casts Hideous End on it, would that cause me to destroy all auras, both umbras or just one aura attached to that creature?

    • Kienan says:

Well, totem armor is a replacement effect, so only one can happen for each time the creature would be destroyed. If a creature enchanted with totem armor would be destroyed, the creature’s controller chooses which totem armor aura would be destroyed. As to Umbra Mystic, she gives all Auras totem armor so, yes, you could choose to destroy any Aura attached to the creature that would be destroyed, as a replacement effect, since all are now totem armor. Holy Strength would have totem armor, since you control the Umbra Mystic, so you could destroy it instead of the creature. :)

    • Flapeter says:

Well, if you don’t know how new ability works, I recommend you to watch Planeswalker’s Primers. Here are primers from RoE: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/428 You also can watch all primers on Wizardsmtg YouTube channel. They’re very helpful.

  • Tume says:

But because all of the “real” totem armors say “– and destroy this Aura” doesn’t that cause all of their abilities to resolve if the creature is about to be destroyed therefore causing me to destroy all the auras?

  • Moose says:

So i just got home from my local pre-release. I went 3-2 with my bant aura deck.
    2 Dawnglare Invoker
    2 Aura Gnarlid
    2 Guard Gomazoa
    1 Wall of Omen
    1 Haze Frog
    1 Tajuru Preserver
    1 Caravan Escort
    1 Stalwar Shild-Bearers
    1 Deathless Angel
    1 Hand of Emrakul
    1 Ulamog’s Crusher

How did everyone else do?  Overall my decked played well.  lost once to a miss play with Dawnglare Invoker. other loses were just close races.

    • Jangles says:

    drake umbra
    guard gomazoa
    induce despair
    bear umbra + level up
any eldrazi, if you could get them out which was not that hard

  • Putitwhere says:

I have a question. If you have an eldrazi with Annihilator 1 out and you give it Eldrazi Conscription, does it’s annihilator get replaced by the Conscription annihilator or does the eldrazi get two instances of Annihilator. One at 1 and one at 2?

It worked great until I got placed against a guy with 3 consume the meeks, and then when i still placed in the top 16 of 90,  I got paired against the same guy.

I gotta say, leveler’s look kind of uninteresting but they really are fun. It almost feels like playing a chess game, having all your pieces on the table and thinking over what to do.

  • Fede L says:

I went 3-1-1 with a WU leveler aura deck. I’ll have to eat my words about Level Up. In this environment (slooow), even common levelers become serious threats when enchanted with umbras.
But best strategy I can find is this: EVASION. Flying, that blue unblockable leveler, and more flying =D

    • Kienan says:

Evasion indeed, agreed! Even the blue Invoker, a 3/3 for five mana, is still quite good, just because it flies. Drake Umbra, which I at first thought was ridiculously expensive when it was spoiled, since I was comparing to the other umbras, turned out to be incredibly useful. The flying was well worth the extra cost. :)

      • Fede L says:

And what about the white invoker? It clears the way for a lethal strike! And…IT CAN FLY! I found myself wasting a removal (and I had very few of removal in my deck – two or three) on that litle dude because my opponent was about to obtain it’s eight mana source.

  • Matt says:

My draft table kept feeding me blue, and I am here to tell you that if you get enclave cryptologists, more than 4 deprives, 3 or 4 lay bare, multiple sea gate oracles, renegade doppelganger, sphinx of margosi and 2 eldrazi conscriptions, 2 things will happen. 1: games will take an average of 14 turns. 2: you will realize that blue is truly viable once again, even in draft. It is entirely possible to build an excellent draw-go deck in draft (especially if you get walls and guard dutys)

  • Kienan says:

I got a mediocre pool, and the shittiest luck ever, and went 2-2. My luck was statistic defying bad. XD

Against one guy I mulled down to five both games (lost 0-2), and still only ended up with a single land, out of eighteen that I was playing. Against my other opponent that I lost to (also 0-2), both games I only saw at most one of my levelers (I was playing UW level up as well :D ), out of the seven or eight that I was playing. Also, that opponent got his Guul Draz Assassin in his opening hand both games as well. It was not pretty.

One game I Regressed his Assassin twice, I think, as well as Ousting it, but I still wasn’t drawing anything, and still lost. The other two games I went 2-0 in each, though, since my deck was actually doing what it was supposed to.

I still had fun but, seriously, I’ve never seen anything like that run of bad luck. My pool was barely workable, but I managed to pull together a decent deck (no rares in it, though XD)…but then often never drew anything relevant, even though the deck was solid. Disappointing, but still glad I went. I’ll try and make it to the Launch event as  well.

  • Treme says:

    appreciated this blog!

  • dee says:

    lol
“Lust for War” and “Narcolepsy” … Ouch.

  • justyfier says:

student costs white mana only eant the rest are almost all collerless.
I droped it because it was to white intensive. and a 6/6 islandwalker will still kill the student. i find that a better option.

  • Block says:

went 5-0-1 at my prelease. Blue / Red is going to be the nuts.
Out of the 6 packs, I got 3 Rage Nimbus and 2 Warmonger Chariot. Almost no one had a decent answer for Rage Nimbus + Warmonger Chariot protected by Eel Umbra. The match I tied, the guy had GW with Gideon and Leaf Arrow and picked off the Nimbus before I could get him beefy.

  • Disciple of Yawgmoth says:

    Prerelease horror story:

I had an eldrazi spawn token enchanted with Eldrazi Conscription, a 10/11 trampler.  Opponent on the play, thinking, thinkin, thinking, and I’m sure I’ve got this in the bag.  Next turn he’s dead.  He then says “ooooh!!”, manages to Traitorous Instinct my creature and swing with it, and to add insult to injurythen proceeded to sac it for mana.  That essentially ended the game.  You know what I should’a done?  SAC’D the damn thing myself when it was targeted!! AAAAaaarrrrrrgh!  Never have I felt like such a fool.  >:(

I also went up against a guy who managed to get out his Linvala, Keeper of Silence ALL 3 GAMES.  Talk about dumb luck.

    Went 3-3.  So I guess I’m a perfectly average player. ;)

    • that0miguy says:

i hear ya dude.. stuff like those happens to me as well, dont make you a worse player but it sure confirms that we werent concentrating into the game enough.

      • bugenj22 says:

could be worse, I lost a game, because I did not sac. the goblin that kills walls. If I did I kill a overgrown battlement, and my opponent does not get the eldrazi that lets him draw 4. but all in all, it was the only game I lost, with a jund color deck. it worked, with six packs no eldrazi, but had two of the legendary goblins, he is fun. may not be a great constructed card, he is fun to have your opponent attack, and you hit him for one and put a spawn into play, and block with a 5/5. or sac him for annihilator.  30 people, only one anon pulled, no gidon’s, it was not a good card pool all in all.

  • Gwar says:

5-0-1 in my pre-release. Strong green pull with many umbras and Khalni Hydra, and I found that Deprive and level-up guys are quite lethal. I’ll post my deck later.

    • jonsmonamir says:

i was so lucky in my pre release i went 2-2 but in my packs i got 1 normal sarkhan 1 foil sarkhan 1 emrakul 1 dormant gomazoa  1 student of warfare and 1 transcendent master

Very interesting post thanks for writing it I just added your website to my favorites and will be back.

  • me says:

man, it was super fun but also super frustrating. out of 4 rounds, the last three did not see a third game. three games total were draws and my first draw was because my opponent and i both had fully leveled transcendent masters. the last game i broke 100 life with t-master but couldn’t get through his wall of spawn tokens. another draw.

  • I really like the Avatar 3D film, particularly the story line, not only it brings a completely new sensation but inspiring ideas of humanity. I heard the New Avatar 2 is comming soon, can’t wait to watch it again…!

I really like the Avatar 3D film, not really the story line, didn’t really get any great sensation out of it, and the thoughts of humanity were cliched drivel.  Don’t really need an avatar 2 and I wouldn’t want to see it. But I will say, that “Avatar”s existence led to this picture.

Thanks for all those wins tonight,
    ~Kienan.
    :D

    • False Prophet says:

Is it really that good ? I’m curious about how you could do so well with such a costly creature.

      • Arkidnus says:

It’s great if an opponent has no answer to it by the time you level it up once or twice. Leveling it a third time gives you an answer to (i.e. free removal for) nearly all of your opponent’s creatures. I managed to ping a 5CC Dread Drone for one and kill it when my dumbass opponent forgot I had my mage leveled.

      • Kienan says:

Yeah, I was surprised as well. At first glance he looked awful, but I decided I’d give him a try, since I thought he’d be great in limited. Once or twice he was dead weight, sure, but mostly he kicked surprising amounts of ass. He’s one of those cards that forces your opponent off balance; forces them to change how they play if they don’t have a direct answer. If you get him out early, you can stop your opponent from playing some of their creatures entirely. He’s basically a mini-assassin (Guul Draz Assassin, that is) that is only uncommon, and can hit your opponent. If you’ve ever played against an Assassin (OWCH), you’ll know how potent that is.

Very good in a stalemate, too. In one game, after I removed all the creatures I could, but couldn’t attack in due to some large defender, or some such, one Brimstone Mage did six damage to my opponent’s face before he finally got removed. He’d already killed three or four creatures, too, and had simply ran out of targets. He often controlled the game. So, you tell me if that’s worth the fifteen (incremental) mana cost. :)

        • False Prophet says:

I can see now, thanks for the detailed answer.

It seems to benefit a lot from the pretty slow pace of the set, but I don’t believe it will make it anywhere outside limited.

          • Kienan says:

And I’m not saying it will either. It’s not even really a good card, in itself (cool effect, but too expensive), but it rocks in ROE limited. :)

  • dkdonuts1 says:

umm… if emurkal cost less like  maybe like 9 mana or something

  • drew says:
