Tarkir: Dragonstorm introduces us to this beauty that brings all the beasts to the yard. Enter: Eshki, Temur's Roar. She's a 3-mana 2/2 that turns every creature spell into a spark of growth, value, and potential face-melting damage? Yes, please. Eshki is the beauty at the heart of a beastly parade--elegant, explosive, and never alone.
- Cast a creature, she grows.
- Cast a big one (4+ power), you draw.
- Cast a massive one (6+ power), and she roars--dealing her power as damage to every opponent.
It's a tale as old as time: play big beasts, and let your commander do all the talking (or screaming). Regardless if you go tall with counters or wide with stompy threats, Eshki turns every creature into a crescendo of value, violence, and victory.
Here are three paths you can take with Eshki that will lead you to a roaring win.
Path One: The Beauty Grows Fierce (+1/+1 Counters Build)
Eshki starts small, but every creature you cast makes her stronger. This build leans into +1/+1 counters, letting her snowball into a threat that burns harder with every spell. Even your smaller creatures fuel the fire, and the counters don't just help Eshki--they empower the rest of your board too.
Card Suggestions
- Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales, Winding Constrictor - Because two counters are always better than one.
- The Ozolith - When Eshki dies, her power lives on.
- Forgotten Ancient - Passively piles on counters for the whole team.
- Invigorating Hot Spring - Counters and haste? A spicy spring indeed.
- Rishkar, Peema Renegade - Turns your counter-laden board into a mana engine.
You'll want to cast creatures consistently, turn after turn. Threats, utility creatures, or token producers all get the job done. And once Eshki's power hits double digits, every 6+ power creature you cast is essentially a Fireball to the face.
Bonus: Use Halana and Alena, Partners to add even more counters and give your big creatures haste--because waiting is for the weak.
Path Two: A Parade of Beasts (Ramp & Stompy Build)
This build says one thing: the bigger, the better. Here, you're going full Temur--ramp hard, drop massive creatures, and let Eshki do the damage-dealing dirty work.
Every beast becomes value. Every big body is a trigger. And with enough mana, you can go from "nice board" to "why is everyone dead" in one turn.
Ramp Targets
- Quartzwood Crasher - Triggers Eshki, makes trampling dinos.
- Etali, Primal Conqueror - Draw, roar, and potentially win.
- Kogla and Yidaro - Trample + fight + discard value = perfection.
- Apex Devastator - Cascade? Free spells?
- Primeval Protector - Counters for the entire team!
- Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma - Cost reduction and trample, on theme.
Ramp Package
- Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Farseek - Basic mana fixing.
- Somberwald Sage, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - Ramp that loves creatures.
- Zendikar Resurgent, Temur Ascendancy - Ramp and card draw. Oh, and you CANNOT play without the clan's enchantment!
This deck is loud, mean, and filled with threats that turn sideways and leave no survivors. You'll be casting 6+ power creatures like it's your job--and with Eshki's damage scaling up with her own power, it's not uncommon to end games without ever entering the red zone.
Spicy Wincon: Cast Tooth and Nail, grab two beefcakes, and watch the fireworks. With a fully juiced Eshki, that's 15-20 damage to everyone--on the spot.
Path Three: Flash and Fury (Tempo & Surprise Builds)
Who says the beasts have to enter on your turn?
This version of the deck leans into flash creatures, instants, and surprise plays, making Eshki feel like a ticking time bomb. You pass with open mana, then drop a 6-power flash creature on an opponent's turn and--boom--Eshki deals damage to everyone before your next upkeep.
This path feels tricksy, reactive, and full of counterpunches. You're still playing creature-heavy, but the focus is timing. You control the rhythm, and Eshki provides the bass drop.
Key Creatures & Effects
- Alchemist's Refuge, Leyline of Anticipation - Give all your creatures flash.
- Mystic Snake, Sawtusk Demolisher, Endurance - Flash, mutate, or graveyard shuffling
- Torrential Gearhulk - Technically not a beast, but who's counting when it casts a free spell and triggers Eshki?
- Wild-Magic Sorcerer - Give cascade to your flash spells and trigger Eshki even more.
Flash Payoffs & Tools
- Vedalken Orrery - The classic. Turns your game into Blue-Green control.
- Vivien, Champion of the Wilds - Flash and card advantage in one elegant package.
- Decisive Denial, Heroic Intervention, Sublime Epiphany - Flexible spells that help you maintain tempo.
You'll want a few +1/+1 counter enablers here too, but this version is more about the element of surprise. You don't aim to go wide or tall--you play smart, react fast, and let Eshki gradually grow into a ticking cannon.
Tech: Surprise: Cast a 6+ power creature with flash while Eshki has 10+ power. Instant dome. Follow up with your turn and do it again.
Femme Fatale
Eshki, Temur's Roar, is a symphony of growth, fury, and elegance. Every creature you cast adds to the chorus--some bring cards, others bring pain, all of them feed the flame.
She doesn't ask for combos or convoluted lines. She just wants you to play creatures--and in return, she gives you draw, power, and the occasional table-wide firestorm. Simple. Brutal. Beautiful.
With Eshki at the helm, every turn becomes a moment of tension: will this be the drop that draws, that domes, that turns the tide?
Beauty stands at the center of the storm.
The beasts follow her lead.
And when she roars... the game doesn't last much longer. I don't know about you, but my next Magic: the Gathering will surely involve Eshki, Temur's Roar... on my side of the battlefield. Hear us roar!
